SHPS Tips for Investigation

SHPS 10 Tips for Investigation

1.  When entering a room, get a baseline reading of EMF, temperature, barometric pressure, and ambient light and noise levels.

2.  Once you have a baseline, SIT and BE QUIET. It’s hard to hear and see subtleties when you are moving and talking.

3.  Be aware of your surroundings at all times and pay attention to subtle changes in ambient light, noise, and temperature.

4.  Be aware of furniture placement when entering a room and avoid obstacles on floor, walls and hanging from ceiling.

5.  If you must speak, DO NOT WHISPER- speak in a normal voice. EVP’s can be contaminated with whispering and are easily confused with entity communication.

6.  Log any “incidents” such as shadow movement, personal feelings, battery drain, disembodied voices, EMF or temperature fluctuations with the correct time. If you can, always wear a watch. If you are recording audio, mention it on the audio with the time.

7.  No smoking at any location while on investigation. Photos can capture smoke that may be misidentified as mists, fogs, or apparitions. If you must smoke, please retreat to the perimeter of the property- DO NOT go alone. Make sure someone knows where you are at all times.

8.  When taking pictures, hold your breath. Breath in photos may also appear as mists or fogs. Beware stray hairs, camera straps, jacket strings, spider webs and dust. Condensation and smudges on the lens may also contaminate your photos.

9.  When working with IR or ambient thermometers, be aware that some colors and textured surfaces may hold residual heat and dissipate different according to the wavelength of light they reflect.

10.  Never automatically discount a personal experience. Remember, experiences in tandem with physical anomaly can be significant.

SHPS Rules of Engagement

SHPS RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

1.  Never never never never never go ANYWHERE on site alone. This rule is not only for your own safety, but also for liability purposes, as well as to have a back-up witness should any paranormal event occur.

2.  Waivers of liability, interviews with clients, and site evaluations will be completed and on file prior to taking any equipment or investigators on site.

3.  Strategic vigil plan should be in place prior to setting up equipment or going dark. Teams will honor time restraints and action plan.

4.  Prior to entering site and upon leaving, investigators will conduct personal cleansing/shielding exercises in whatever manner they choose. This is a REQUIREMENT.

5.  Each team shall always carry extra batteries, flashlight, radio, and whistle. A SHPS- provided first aid kit is mandatory on-site.

6.  While on-site, all personnel will conduct themselves in a professional, courteous, calm manner, and will not engage in horseplay, pranks, or conversation with client regarding research. Behavior deemed inappropriate by SHPS is cause for immediate dismissal from the site and possible permanent removal from the investigation team.

7.  If while on site, personnel discover evidence of or have reason to believe client may be engaging in criminal or inappropriate activity, or if there is evidence of mental illness, the site coordinator shall be notified immediately.

8.  If at any time you feel uncomfortable in a situation, get out of the situation.

9.  If on-site coordinator requests sudden termination of the investigation, gear is to be collected and personnel will leave immediately without question or comment. You will be briefed on the emergency later.

10.  At close of on-site investigation, all SHPS- owned equipment shall be gathered and accounted for, with at least two personnel signing check-in sheet. Your own gear is your own responsibility.

11.  Results shall be revealed and discussed with client only by authorized personnel. Team members may NOT disclose information deemed confidential to persons outside the investigation team, nor may they discuss results with other investigators prior to revealing evidence to client.

12.  SEE RULE #1
