SHPS Emergency Protocol
It is the intention of the Seven Hills Paranormal Society to be well-trained and prepared for any situation that may arise while on investigation. Due to the nature of paranormal investigation, we often find ourselves in less than ideal weather situations, as well as restrictive or hazardous spaces riddled with obstacles. In contrast to the physical aspect of investigations, we must also be prepared to handle mental, emotional, and spiritual crisis that may arise when confronted with the unknown. Our investigators pride themselves on being realists, skeptics, logical and rational thinkers, and are expected to conduct themselves in professional manner at all times. It is the personal responsibility of each participant to ensure their own safety by recognizing and avoiding potentially dangerous situations.
In the event of an emergency of any nature, the first priority of all participants is to remove themselves from the hazard and immediately notify base or the on-site coordinator. Each investigation team will be equipped with a radio and should communicate the nature of the incident as quickly as possible.
In the event of a medical emergency, if the injured cannot be brought back to base, at least one other person should remain with the injured at all times until help arrives. Teams will be no less than three, and the third participant will either keep open communications with base, or if unable to reach base by radio, the third member will physically return to base with notification. During an emergency, radio traffic should be kept to a minimum by other teams.
If teams receive notification to return immediately to base, all participants are to gather their belongings and return as quickly as possible, making note of their surroundings and avoiding further potential danger. Immobile equipment such as tripod mounted cameras should be left until the situation is assessed and teams are released to retrieve equipment.
If the on-site coordinator calls an investigation either by radio or in person, there will be no further radio traffic or discussion among participants or to the client, unless in the event of an emergency. Participants will be briefed of the situation when the on-site coordinator deems it appropriate.
Remember, your reaction to an emergency can either relieve a stressful situation, or exacerbate it. Remain calm, think rationally, and follow instructions from on-site coordinators.
